Truth vs Deceit

Truth v deceit.

‘Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God

had made.’ Genesis 3:1

‘Vindicate me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation; rescue

me from wicked and deceitful men. … Send forth your light and truth, let them

guide me; …’ Psalm 43:1,3a

Over decades, there have been continual media attacks on politicians, public figures and Christian leaders, particularly on the part of certain newspapers but also broadcasters. There has been a particular feeling on the Left that the so called "Right-Wing Media" have been increasing their attacks in both quantity and vigour in recent months and years, affecting not just specific politicians or parties but the subject and tone of debate as a whole.

The effect on the general public has been noticeable, and a culture of distrust and disengagement has grown in relation to all things political.

IN PRAYER Ask God for deceit in public debate to be shown up for what it is, whatever form it takes: misleading statements, selective use of facts, outright lies, distorted images, misuse of statistics, refusal to answer questions or to be asked them in the first place, mockery.

May God vindicate those who tell the truth or challenge lies. Praise him for those who have done so; may they feel the warmth of the Holy Spirit. When people try to deceive, may they feel a cold wind in their faces. Pray that voters may be aware of truth as it comes to light.

Pray for accuracy in polling and in the interpretation of the results.

7.30pm, ITV - 7-way debate between key figures from all parties, but without Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn. Pray for the party representatives; the questioners and their questions; chairing. Can they ‘disagree well’? Pray for a respectful, illuminating discussion. Then for the reaction of all commentators, including on social media.
