The Lord Reigns

The aftermath

‘Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.’ Psalm 33:12

‘… you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.’ 1 Corinthians 15:58b

IN PRAYER. Pray for the whole country and for the formation of the new government.

Whether your local candidate won or lost, praise God that he is the Lord. Pray that he will guide our nation in his path.

Remember that whatever we have done for the Lord's sake during the campaign is never wasted. Good words and deeds build a kingdom that will not fall.

Pray for all who stood as candidates: those who won and those who lost of all parties and for all new and re-elected Labour MPs. Ask for wisdom for Jeremy Corbyn, his allies and the rest of the PLP regarding the future of the Labour party and the good of the country.

‘The arc of the universe is long, but it tends towards justice.’ Martin Luther King.

Then pray for Christians on the Left and the churches.

INTO THE FUTURE. Again, win or lose, consider whether God is giving you a political calling to serve him and the public. At any rate, it’s important not to withdraw from democracy (though for some a break might be in order!)

And/or pray about making your church a microcosm and model of what society should be: a community of sharing and of meeting of needs. Apart from this being biblical, it provides an example for people on the left to point to and say, ‘It works!’ And let’s not ever forget:

(Psalm 96:10)
