International Concerns

International concerns

‘In that day I will make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field and the

birds of the air and the creatures that move along the ground. Bow and sword

and battle I will abolish from the land, so that all may lie down in safety.’ Hosea 2:18.

‘In putting everything under [the Son], God left nothing that is not subject to

him. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him.’ Hebrews 2:8b

Sadly, we do not yet live in the fully-arrived Kingdom of God. On the other hand, we have the biblical vision and Jesus himself has told us to pray for it to come. We’ve got the ultimate mandate!

Many linked international concerns are close to the heart of this election: Brexit, trade deals, international aid, migration, terrorism, foreign policy, defence and peace, climate change and environmental issues. We are reminded how the love of money (see last Friday) taints their operation:

‘Conservatives pledge “unprecedented” support for oil and gas after receiving almost £400,000 from oil bosses’ (The Independent).

IN PRAYER. Remember our mandate! Bring to God the destructive role of misspent money internationally; pray that resources may go to the right people and places. Also pray about the tension between traditional industry and current green imperatives.

Pray about the complications of being a Remain Labour MP with a Leave constituency and similar dilemmas. Ask for wisdom for British politicians and those of the other 27 countries of the EU. Pray for a Brexit deal that is as beneficial as possible to all sides and will help bring about the Kingdom of God rather than be a hindrance.

And of foreign influence: pray against any undue interference in the election.
