Decision Time Approaches

Decision time approaches

‘He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.’

Luke 1:52.

‘The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; he guides it

wherever he pleases. …’ Proverbs 21:1 (NLT)

… and tomorrow the voters are king!

I wonder how much we actually believe God is in control of this election. Many party workers will have exhausted themselves for the sake of votes. Isn’t it our efforts that really count?

However, many pages of the Bible are devoted to rulers, their deeds and God’s anger or pleasure at their decisions. Pharoahs, Moses, Israel’s judges and kings, the Romans and their friend Herod: all figure prominently. Paul urges us to pray ‘for kings and all in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives…’ 1 Timothy 2:2.

We have to conclude that the Lord is deeply concerned about who rules. He can remove the arrogant from power and replace them with people who have Kingdom of God values. But we have to pray, taking authority and standing on what God has promised. He is pleased with that!

IN PRAYER. The last day of canvassing. Last polls and their influence. Pray for Labour to get more seats and votes than predicted; ask God for a number or percentage of votes in your constituency. Ask for fine, dry weather tomorrow.

Pray for all party leaders, especially Jeremy Corbyn. Pray for righteousness and justice, mercy and humility to prevail.
