I’m as conservative as the Word of God, and as liberal as the love of God. I sense that God’s heart is slightly to the left.

“Christians on the Left” is a new name that reflects the new energy and creativity that Christians are bringing to the Labour party. I look forward to continuing to work with them to build a more just society.

We now have a new name which broadens our appeal and importantly doesn’t exclude anybody– but it certainly does not mean we have lost our core identity. There are many Christians on the left of politics who I now believe can add to our voice as we become a truly progressive voice for social and economic justice

This new all embracing and inclusive profile will hopefully provide a real ‘big tent’ for those with all forms of spiritual and Christian faith to make their voice heard within the Party.

Our new name makes it clear who we are and what we are about. Across the UK there are Christians working to hold communities together, and I believe many more of them will now join us in our efforts to fight for justice.

There has never been a more important time to be a Christian on the Left. The church and the nation need us to speak up for justice.

Christians on the Left are not just shaping policy, they are fleshing it out in their lives. They are working to bring hope in some of the toughest neighbourhoods of our nation. They are not content to simply throw stones from the sidelines. They are getting on the pitch.

I welcome the new, simple, forthright, catchy name of “Christians on the Left”. It gives a refreshing sense of the new opportunities ahead, and the new chance we all have, as Christians, as progressives, and as radicals, to transform our society and politics for the better

I am delighted that members overwhelmingly supported a change to our name. I am confident this move will help us much more easily to start a conversation with Christians on the left of politics who have yet to engage with our movement – they can be assured that whilst our name has changed, the values and purpose that ground our movement remain.
